Conhecida mundialmente pela Torre inclinada, esta cidade, da região da Toscânia, tem cerca de
85 000 habitantes e abriga a Universidade de Pisa, uma das mais conceituadas de Itália.
Em termos históricos durante a Idade Média, Pisa dominou o Mediterrâneo Ocidental. A riqueza proveniente do comércio permitiu uma revolução cultural que é vidente nos magníficos edifícios da cidade. O declínio de Pisa tem início em 1284, com a derrota frente a Génova e foi agravado pelo assoreamento do porto. Diz a tradição que foi no porto de Pisa que S. Pedro desembarcou para pregar o Evangelho, tendo seguido daí para Roma.
Descobertas arqueológicas recentes revelaram a existência de um grande porto fluvial da época romana no seu subsolo. O antigo porto encontra-se sob a estação ferroviária de San Rossore e Pisa fica a 17km do mar.
Fiquei deslumbrada quando passo de carro e sem contar por uma porta tenho a primeira visão da Piazza del Duomo, não pela dimensão, porque tal como é habitual a Torre é mais pequena do que imaginava, mas pelo conjunto dos edifícios... de cortar a respiração.

Por uma questão de tempo limitei a minha visita à Piazza dei Miracoli. Fiquei com vontade de voltar e percorrer as ruas em volta do Rio Arno.

Eu cheguei a Pisa de carro, uma vez que estava em Bolonha. Contudo, a cidade dispõe de um aeroporto o Galileo Galilei International Airport, também conhecido por Pisa-San Giusto Airport, que fica a um quilómetro do centro da cidade. O aeroporto tem a sua própria estação de comboios. Existem voos low cost de Portugal para este aeroporto.

The decline of Pisa began in 1284, with the defeat against Genoa and was aggravated by the silting of the port. Tradition tells us that it was at the port of Pisa that St. Peter disembarked to preach the Gospel and then proceeded to Rome.
Recent archaeological discoveries have revealed the existence of a great river port of Roman times in its subsoil. The old harbor is under the train station of San Rossore and Pisa is 17km from the sea.
I was dazzled when I pass by car and without counting a saw a door and I had the first view of Piazza del Duomo, not by size, because as usual the Tower is smaller than I imagined, but by the set of buildings ... to cut the breath.

For the time being, I limited my visit to Piazza dei Miracoli. I felt like going back and walking the streets around the Arno River.

I arrived in Pisa by car once I was in Bologna. However, the city has an airport the Galileo Galilei International Airport, also known as Pisa-San Giusto Airport, which is one kilometer from the city center. The airport has its own train station. There are low cost flights from Portugal to this airport.
